America Has Sneezed

America Has Sneezed

America has sneezed, but instead of a handkerchief being offered to her, we're witnessing a global "wait and see" stand-offish-ness towards Wall St.  It belies the reality that America plays a major role in the entire world's economy, that is our policies, our motives and our actions affect everyone.  Hence the old adage, When America sneezes, the whole world catches her cold.

In my lifetime, America's global image has gone from positive to negative.   It's been in steady decline, and it's not just a small breach with our European allies.

It's also not just a simple hatred of America in the Middle East, it's global.  And I wonder if it arises from differences of a religious or a cultural nature, or if the conflict is entrenched in American politics and power interests.   I'm not sure.

But whatever the reason that another country would find glee in America's struggle, they would be wise to realize that there can be no gain by it.  We are truly a global community, the fact that you are reading my words on the internet attest to this fact.  There is no doubt, that what happens here in America, will have a domino affect over there.

Twenty-something years ago, I met a Native American Indian and she wouldn't talk to me.  On her backpack she had meticulously penned the words:

"America, Love her or give her back."

I've been having a love affair with America ever since.   She is the world's melting pot, where all nationalities, races and creeds can come and live together in the pursuit of happiness.  We live in relative peace and will regain prosperity.

We might not be able to convince the rest of the world, of America's greatness, but we're a resilient nation.  I have faith in her and I know she will get better.

When America sneezes, I say,"God Bless you" and know a cure will soon follow.

  • I have faith. Maybe it will take a lot more money than just faith, but what else can I as an American believe. As far as images... we all need to look in the mirror. Greediness is contagious!

  • All that's fine, but I disagree with the bail out of Wall Street's CEO's that have taken millions and millions of dollars.

  • I hope you're right. So much has gone wrong with the country, it's been unchecked... I wonder what ailment will be exposed in November, when the White House changes parties.

  • I also wonder what will happen after November. I do know that who ever is in the office no real change will occur in their first term. No President has made a difference either positive or negative until they get to their second term. I will wait, hope and pray that things get better soon.

  • Before you scold the international community any more, you might consider that our economy would have crashed years ago if not for the support of foreign creditors. With that said, I don't disagree with your major points -- but the target of our ire should not be the foreign peoples or even governments, which have become disillusioned with America, but the INTERNATIONAL BANKERS who are systematically destroying the greatest civilization in history ON PURPOSE, to consolidate power and wealth in their hands.
