Election Nears An End
Election Nears An End
As the presidential election in America nears an end, fears will either subside or be realized, depending on how you see the vote and I am reminded of my childhood. Back then, like now, youth offered the best chance at hope.
Maybe that’s why we fill our kid's heads with fairy tales and convince them to believe in Santa Claus, a jolly old man who’ll give them toys if they’re good little girls and boys. Maybe that’s why we encourage the fantastical story about a Tooth Fairy, who will pay them for a lost tooth or an Easter Bunny who hides eggs and leaves candy filled baskets. Maybe our parents and their parents and their parents, parents got it right when they instilled in us, an ability to accept hope on blind faith
Because right now, as the election nears an end and my grown-up 401K continues to shrink and my health plan hangs by a thread, I’m not so sure that either candidate can reverse the trend. Yet, disbelief can lead to awe and this is the inspiration, the ability to dream, to realize and overcome life’s obstacles. We need our youth to be optimistic, so that we, as adults can be hopeful.
